Samia cynthia Wild Eri Silk Moth
Over 40 years of rearing silk moths, it's only the last 15 years or so where i have been interested in the silk they produce. Out of the many species i have reared i seem to gravitate back to Samia, the Eri silk moths. They are very beautiful, easy to rear & produce a lovely silk in various shades. Often referred to as 'Peace Silk' because the silk is processed after the moth has emerged.
The silk comes from the cocoon which the caterpillar spins to pupate in. Once the moth has emerged the cocoon can be processed into thread or silk paper.
The items here are made using home produced silk from my own moths in the UK.
